Assistant Dean of Development

The School of Law is located in the Worrell Professional Center, which presently houses both the law school and the Graduate School of Management on the 340-acre Wake Forest University Reynolda campus.
Assistant Dean of Development, School of Law - Main Functions:
The Assistant Dean of Development reports to the Dean of the School of Law and to the Associate Vice President of University Development . The Assistant Dean is responsible for all School of Law fundraising initiatives, including annual, capital, and endowment support. The Assistant Dean is charged with leadership for the cultivation and solicitation of School of Law prospects, making personal visits to alumni, parents, and friends to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts and potential leaders for the school. The Assistant Dean is an integral member of the Dean's Cabinet. The Assistant Dean works with the Dean on all functions of the School of Law Board of Visitors (an advisory group of 60 attorneys which meets annually). Other responsibilities for this position follow:
Develops and implements comprehensive fundraising goals, objectives, and plans for the School of Law.
Creates and carries out effective plans for promoting capital needs, endowments, and other long-range fundraising activities.
Writes and submits proposals which reflect fundraising priorities of the School of Law.
Prepares reports for donors on the use of gifts.
Direct donor and prospect contacts via direct mail, email, telethons, and personal visits.
Establishes and implements short-term and long-term departmental goals and objectives; evaluates program effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
Represents the university in various institutional divisions and well as the general public and local community.
Works closely with the Wake Forest University Advancement Team.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The Assistant Dean of Development, School of Law must possess general knowledge of fundraising techniques and will preferably have knowledge of educational fundraising methods and principles. The Assistant Dean will have outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community. The position requires high energy and focus on external relations with alumni and donors. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and eight or more years experience in nonprofit fundraising, marketing, or related experience or an equivalent combination of experience. Supervisory/management experience is required. Experience working in law school advancement is preferred. Other critical skills for this position follow:
Ability to plan, organize and direct multiple programs and activities.
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
Ability to prepare and analyze data and to develop and deliver presentations and stewardship reports.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet.
Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
Ability to supervise and train staff.
Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities.
Knowledge and understanding of the legal community practices and customs.
Ability to travel as required.
Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises staff including the Assistant Director of Law Alumni and Development and an administrative assistant. Schedules and assigns work, reviews performance, and recommends salary increases, promotions, or discharges.
