Johnston Memorial Hospital Foundation has exceeded its $3.8 million goal to build Johnston County's first hospice facility in a well-supported county-wide effort.

Ably chaired by Durwood Stephenson, the Hospice House Capital Campaign Steering Committee united the county's 10 incorporated towns, proving that strong leadership delivers success even in the midst of an economic downturn. Generosity was spurred by the SECU Foundation's gift of $1 million. "I have lived in Johnston County all my life and have never seen our community rally around a project like they have with the SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health," said Stephenson.

April Culver, Vice President, Government Affairs at Johnston Health commented on the successful campaign: "With the expert guidance of the professionals at Capital Development Services, we were able to lay the groundwork for a successful campaign and implement it in a record 12 months. The planning work completed early in the process was instrumental in making this campaign successful. Capital Development Services was with us every step of the way from developing the case statement and selecting our volunteer leaders to 'making the ask' and celebrating our success. This project and campaign has been embraced by our entire community which was evidenced by the strong show of support at our groundbreaking. How wonderful to celebrate such a positive campaign and experience in such a difficult economic time."
