Serving others has always been a part of my personality type, so having it as an official part of my job title here at CapDev makes perfect sense.
Inspired by my 2016 Leadership Winston-Salem experience, I chose to leave an almost 20-year career in publishing, with 17 years at the Winston-Salem Journal, and dive into the nonprofit world at Big Brothers Big Sisters Services as director of agency relations.
During Leadership Winston-Salem, I was part of an Action Learning Team that was tasked with helping Big Brothers Big Sisters Services increase male volunteers. Since implementing the team's marketing plan, the agency had a 143% increase in the number of male mentors year over year.
Growing up in western Pennsylvania, I graduated from Slippery Rock University. Once in North Carolina, I received an MBA from Gardner-Webb University. I have volunteered with the Atkins CDC / The Enterprise Center, Meals on Wheels, and currently serve on the Our Community Day Committee and Program Council for Leadership Winston-Salem. My husband, Dennis, and I are a Big Couple to Little Brother Quamarr, and we have two children: Jesse, a freshman at Western Carolina University, and Olivia, a ninth grader.
I love animals, and we have three dogs, two cats and a guinea pig… it's a zoo! Writing for Winston-Salem Monthly magazine, reading, and leading a women's group and children's group at my church keep me busy away from work.
