Founded in 1794, Tusculum is the first and oldest institution of higher education in Tennessee, the twenty-eighth oldest in the nation, and the oldest coeducational institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). In 2019, Tusculum is celebrating its 225th academic year. Tusculum’s campus is in Greeneville, TN on a beautiful wooded 140-acres at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The location offers a comfortable climate in a small friendly town and an array of outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting, hiking, skiing and more. Knoxville and Asheville, NC are both just an hour away.

The Position | Associate VP of Advancement
Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement assists with strategic leadership, direction, and management for Tusculum University’s major gifts, planned giving, capital campaign and fundraising programs in consultation with the Vice President.
The Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement is a key member of the leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting fundraising for Tusculum University. In addition, the AVP carries a major gift portfolio of prospects directed by the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
The AVP will provide technical and fundraising expertise in cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts of $50,000 and more, bequests, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, pooled income funds, charitable lead trusts, gifts of real estate and gifts of other complex assets. The AVP will serve as a primary resource to other frontline staff in advancing planned gifts and serve as a primary contact to advisors and family members.
S/he will be responsible for raising endowment, capital, and annual support to meet priority needs of the university. The AVP will work closely with the Director of Tusculum Fund, Director of Alumni Engagement, the Vice President, members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, and other key constituents.
Candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience or an equivalent combination
- Experience in capital campaign, major gifts and planned giving fundraising
- Success with converting prospective donors to active donors
- Experience creating and implementing the strategies necessary to inspire donors
- Ability to analyze and apply data to effectively manage a portfolio

Candidates must also be willing to travel frequently, work occasional weekends and demonstrate enthusiasm for the mission of Tusculum University.
