Called “The Big Dreams and Bold Futures” campaign, the goal of Averett University’s first comprehensive capital campaign in its 153-year history is to provide students with a more improved college experience with newer facilities, technology, more scholarships and better academic programs. Well on their way, the $25 million campaign is now at nearly $21 million and climbing!
“We’re not going to stop here, we’re going to keep going, and we want to surpass that twenty-five million dollar goal because every dollar we raise is another student whose life has been impacted and changed for the better,” Averett University President Tiffany Franks said at the campaign’s public announcement last year.
“This is an historic day in the life of Averett University, and I’m profoundly grateful to the more than 3,500 campaign supporters who have already been so generous and faithful in their support of Averett,” said Dr. Franks. “Every dollar raised helps impact another student and another life. An investment in Averett is also an investment in our surrounding region.”
More than 30 individuals and organizations had contributed or pledged over $100,000 each to Averett’s capital campaign at the time of the public announcement.
By the end of its Capital Campaign, the university plans to invest over $1 million in its new service-learning program, which will empower Averett students to work throughout the region in various internships and community service projects.
“We are thankful to everyone who has pledged or contributed during the first phase of the campaign,” said Buddy Rawley ’75, vice president of institutional advancement. “We still have a ways to go, but with more than 75 percent of our goal already achieved, I strongly believe our total goal is well within reach.”
Gifts to Averett’s Capital Campaign will enable the university to recruit even more gifted and diverse students to its fast-growing student body; to attract topnotch professors to its already excellent faculty; to create new “market-smart” programs; to supply area employers with talented, well-trained employees; and to enrich the intellectual and cultural life of the local community and the region.
Averett University has enjoyed considerable positive momentum in the last few years. This fall, the school is celebrating its third consecutive year of record enrollment, plus it has moved up seven spots in the prestigious U.S. News & World Report rankings, from 34th among the top regional colleges and universities to 27th. Averett’s total enrollment is over 2,300 students, and the university has 14 campuses across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
