NC Museum of Natural Sciences

The NC Museum of Natural Science and CapDev have had a long and successful relationship in building one of the country’s finest, state-owned natural science centers.  Originally housed in the back side of the NC Department of Agriculture Building in downtown Raleigh, the Museum’s leadership began planning for a state-of-the art facility that would have the ability to grow as needs and demands change.  First, the state of NC appropriated over $15 million for the facility. From 1996 through 2000, CapDev worked with the Museum’s staff and leadership to plan and launch the Museum’s first capital campaign, and raised over $21 million, well over the initial goal to help build the exhibits that are now housed in the new museum.  Within a few years of completion, the Museum is already underway in planning an expansion campaign and is currently in the quiet phase with several seven-figure gifts already counted toward its new efforts.

“The Museum of Natural Sciences has grown and flourished under the guidance and care of Capital Development Services.  The Museum’s $24 million campaign was a success and the new building became a reality in 2000. In 2009, we have continued to grow and move forward in our current campaign under their careful and experienced leadership that has served us so beautifully.  Simply stated – they’ve made us what we are today and what we will be tomorrow!” – Bonnie Smith, Director of Development
