Compass Report 2024: Navigating Findings from a Statewide Survey of Nonprofits and Funders

CapDev conducted a first-of-its-kind statewide survey of nonprofits and funders in 2024 – Nonprofit Outlook – and has summarized its key findings in the Compass Report, released at the annual NC Center for Nonprofits Conference. Having gathered input on the results from major NC foundations, CapDev is now sharing key takeaways from the report with the nonprofit sector as a spark to engage deepened communications and to ignite opportunities, furthering our work of constantly making our world better. The four main points to discuss center around these topics: reimagine governance structure; educate and empower future workforce; mobilize collaboration for transformative impact; build stronger philanthropic relationships, and can be found in the full report here: www.capdev.com/compassreport2024.

Deep Dive #4: Building Stronger Philanthropic Relationships

For this conversation, we convened two statewide philanthropic leaders in this space to share their insights: Suzanne Philemon, Executive Director | The Cannon Foundation and Tom Lawrence, President & CEO | The Leon Levine Foundation. Together, we discuss the changing philanthropic landscape; trust as cornerstone to building stronger relationships; and how funders can reimagine support through the SMIRF framework. Additionally, Philemon and Lawrence answer questions from webinar attendees, such as how funders support innovation and why it is actually beneficial that nonprofits share the “good, bad, and the ugly” with funders.

What is Generously Speaking?

The concept for Generously Speaking is that there are significant leaders in our world of philanthropy who we at our firm are able to speak with often in the course of our work on behalf of various nonprofit clients. We see great generosity in action and we thought it would be nice to be able to share some of those conversations.
