Hospice of Wake County Gets a Nice Surprise Gift

Posted on

Often we hear a story of a gift that just begs to be shared. Here’s a great story of a great gift to our client, Hospice of Wake County, in Raleigh NC, that occurred just last week, reminding us of the pleasure we all have in sharing the joy of generosity:

On Tuesday, March 2nd, following a tour with long-time supporter, Dr. Billy Dunlap, Hospice of Wake County received a $1 million donation to help fund the construction of its $14.5 million, 20-bed hospice home.

The donation comes from Reid Towler, a 1947 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who was born and raised in Raleigh. Following his graduation from UNC, Towler had a fruitful career in insurance with New England Mutual of Boston. “It seems like every time I read obituaries in the newspaper, there is always someone I know who has passed away and they praise the services of Hospice. I see how Hospice of Wake County takes care of people, and I wanted to help in any way I could,” said Towler.

Mike Blanchard, Vice President of Development at Hospice of Wake County said, “Mr. Towler’s generous gift has helped us surpass the $13 million mark in our fundraising campaign.  His gift, the largest from an individual in the organization’s history, will be recognized by naming the Trinity Road Hospice site the ‘Reid S. Towler Campus’ of Hospice of Wake County.”
