Following the announcement last November that Paul McLaughlin, President of the Moravian Ministries Foundation in America (MMFA), would be retiring effective June 30, 2017, the Board launched a search effort to identify his successor. The search process went as planned, and the Board is very pleased to announce that Christopher W. Spaugh has accepted the position of President, and will begin with the MMFA on June 1, 2017.

Mr. Spaugh, a lifelong resident of North Carolina, has spent the past 22 years in increasing positions of responsibility at Wells Fargo Bank NA, and its predecessor, Wachovia Bank. During these years he has developed and demonstrated his ability as a relationship-driven Philanthropic Services leader in the areas of charitable giving and financial solutions. His personal references have vouched for his reputation for integrity, visionary leadership, staff management, nonprofit governance, financial management/oversight, client service, partnership-building and strategic planning.

In addition, since 2004 Mr. Spaugh has served with the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust as trustee representative to oversee the strategic, administrative and operational work of the residuary foundation created by Mrs. Kate Bitting Reynolds.

As prior Board Chair and member of the Board Search Committee, Gail Theard, stated, “We were very pleased with the high quality of the 7 finalists, and are extremely pleased that someone of Chris’ qualifications and experience will be assuming the leadership of the important functions of the MMFA.”

The Board also wishes to again recognize the significant contributions of Paul McLaughlin in the formation and achievements of the MMFA over the past 20 years, and wishes him well in his transition to retirement.
